About This Image Resizer
An image resizer changes the dimensions of an image — either by exact pixel values, by scaling to a percentage, by fitting a social media platform's required dimensions, or by reducing to a specific file size. Resizing is one of the most frequent tasks in digital work: uploading a photo to a job portal, preparing images for a website, fitting the right size for an Instagram post, or getting a passport photo below a strict KB limit.
Need to do more with your images? You can compress resized images for even smaller file sizes with our Image Compressor, or convert your resized images to a PDF document with our Image to PDF tool.
🔒 Your privacy is guaranteed. Unlike Adobe Express, Canva, and Resizeimage.net, this image resizer never uploads your files to a remote server. All resizing happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API — your images remain completely private and are never stored or seen by anyone else.
Who Should Use This Image Resizer?
Which Resize Mode Should You Use?
This tool offers four resize modes. Each is designed for a different real-world task. Choosing the right one gives you the result you need without manual guesswork:
📏 Pixels Mode
Enter a specific width and height in pixels. Keep the aspect ratio lock enabled to prevent distortion, or unlock it for non-proportional resizing. Choose between Fit (adds letterboxing), Fill & Crop (exact size, trims edges), or Stretch (exact size, may distort). Use for e-commerce product images, ID documents, and print-ready files with fixed dimension requirements.
📈 Percentage Mode
Scale images to a percentage of their original size — enter 50 to halve dimensions, or 200 to double them. Proportions are always maintained automatically. Use when you want to reduce all images to half size for a website, or scale up a batch of thumbnails proportionally without specifying exact pixel dimensions.
📱 Presets Mode
30+ one-click presets for Instagram (square, portrait, Story), Facebook (post, cover, event), YouTube (thumbnail, banner), LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter/X, Pinterest, WhatsApp, and passport sizes. Select a preset and the correct dimensions are set automatically. Use Fill & Crop to get an exact platform-ready image with no white borders.
💾 Target KB Mode
Enter a target file size in KB or MB and the tool automatically reduces quality and/or dimensions to hit that target. Essential for visa applications, government portal uploads, passport photo submission systems, and email attachment limits where the maximum file size is specified. Works best with JPG or WebP output format.
Image Sizes for Every Social Media Platform (2026)
Each social media platform has specific image dimension requirements. Using the wrong size results in cropped thumbnails, stretched profile photos, or blurry uploads. The Presets mode includes all of these automatically — but here is a quick reference:
Use Fill & Crop mode for exact fit. Portrait (4:5) gets more feed visibility than square. Stories must be 9:16 ratio.
🎥 YouTube
Thumbnail: 1280×720 | Channel Banner: 2560×1440 | Profile: 800×800Thumbnails must be 16:9 ratio. Channel banner displays differently on desktop vs mobile — design with the 1235×338 safe zone in mind.
Post images are cropped to 1.91:1 in feed. Cover photo safe zone is 820×312 — keep key content away from edges.
LinkedIn post images display at 1.91:1 in feed. Company logo minimum size is 300×300. Keep text away from profile photo borders.
🆕 TikTok & Pinterest
TikTok Profile: 200×200 | Pinterest Pin: 1000×1500Pinterest uses a 2:3 vertical ratio for standard pins — taller pins get more feed visibility. TikTok video thumbnails are 1080×1920.
🏠 Passport & ID Photos
UK: 413×531 | US: 600×600 | 35×45mm: 413×531Combine Presets mode with Target KB mode for passport photos that meet both dimension and file size requirements of embassy portals.

Common Image Resizing Problems & Fixes
📷 Resized image looks stretched or squashed
Make sure the aspect ratio lock (🔒 icon) is enabled before entering dimensions. If you enter width, the height adjusts automatically to maintain proportions. Use Fit mode instead of Stretch if you need to constrain dimensions without distortion.
💾 Target KB result is still too large
The Target KB mode works best with JPG or WebP output. Switch the Output Format from "Keep Original" to JPG or WebP, then re-run. PNG cannot be reduced below a certain size because it uses lossless compression — converting to WebP typically cuts PNG sizes by 50–70%.
📸 Social media preset image has white borders
You are using Fit mode, which adds letterboxing to prevent cropping. Switch the Resize Mode to Fill & Crop in the Presets panel. This fills the canvas to exact platform dimensions and trims the edges — the standard approach for profile photos and post images.
🚫 Output file is larger than the original
This happens when you resize a small image to larger dimensions (upscaling), or when converting from a compressed JPG to PNG. To keep file size small, convert to WebP at 80% quality — or use our Image Compressor after resizing for maximum reduction.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Yes. All resizing happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never sent to any external server — completely private regardless of what they contain.
- Upload your image, select Pixels mode, enter your target dimensions, keep the aspect ratio lock enabled, and set quality to 80–90%. The aspect ratio lock prevents stretching, and the quality slider keeps the output visually sharp.
- Select Target KB mode, enter 100 in the size field, make sure Kilobytes (KB) is selected, and set output format to JPG or WebP. The tool automatically adjusts quality and dimensions to produce a file as close to 100KB as possible.
- Upload up to 20 images at once by dragging them all onto the drop zone or selecting multiple files. Set your resize settings once — they apply to all images. Click Resize and download everything as a ZIP archive.
- Select Presets mode, click your Instagram preset (square 1080×1080, portrait 1080×1350, Story 1080×1920), choose Fill & Crop as the resize mode, and click Resize. Your image will be perfectly sized in about ten seconds.
- The tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP as inputs. For output you can keep the original format or convert to JPG, PNG, or WebP. Format conversion and resizing happen simultaneously in a single step.
- Select Presets mode and choose the correct passport preset (UK Passport 413×531, US Passport 600×600, or 35×45mm). Then also enable Target KB mode if the portal specifies a maximum file size. Use Fill & Crop to ensure the image fills the exact dimensions without white borders.
- Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, select your images from your camera roll, choose your resize settings, and download the resized files directly to your device. Everything runs inside your mobile browser — no app download required.
- Select Target KB mode, enter the maximum size required by the portal (e.g. 200 for 200KB), and set output format to JPG. The tool iteratively reduces quality and scale until the output file is as close to your target as possible — ideal for visa applications, NHS portals, and passport photo upload systems.
