Crochet Companion Privacy Policy

MZ Tech Pro (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Crochet Companion mobile application (“the App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is used, and what choices you have.

1. Information We Handle

Project information stored on your device

The App allows you to create crochet projects and may store the following information locally on your Android device:

• Project names
• Row and repeat counter values
• Counter undo history
• Next-step and personal notes
• Yarn brand, colour, and dye-lot details
• Hook information
• Target-row settings
• US or UK terminology preference
• Yarn-estimate results
• Project photos that you choose to import

This project information is stored in the App’s private local storage. We do not operate a developer server that receives or stores your crochet projects.

Photos

If you choose a project photo, the App processes the selected image on your device. The App may correct the image orientation and create a smaller copy for use inside the App and in progress cards. Your original photo is not changed.

The App does not automatically access your photo library. A photo is used only after you select it through the Android file or photo picker.

Backups

The App allows you to export a backup file manually. A backup may include your projects, counter history, notes, settings, and resized project photos.

Backups are created only when you request an export. The App does not automatically upload backups to MZ Tech Pro. You are responsible for where you store, send, or share an exported backup. Backup files created by the App are not encrypted by the App.

Shared progress cards

The App can create an image-based progress card. Before sharing, you choose which available items to include, such as your project name, current row, project photo, or App attribution.

The App does not automatically include your notes, yarn details, hook details, pattern files, or other private project information in a progress card. When you share a card, Android sends it to the sharing application you choose. That application’s own privacy policy applies to the shared copy.

2. Advertising and Google Services

The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display advertising. Banner ads may appear on the project list, saved yarn-estimate screen, and session summary. An occasional full-screen interstitial ad may appear when you deliberately finish a crafting session, subject to frequency limits. Ads do not interrupt active row counting, project editing, backup, or sharing. If an ad is unavailable, you can continue using the App without waiting for it to load.
The App stores ad-frequency counters and timestamps locally on your device to limit how often interstitial ads appear. These records are not included in exported project backups.

Google and its advertising partners may process information such as:

• Advertising identifiers and device identifiers
• IP address and approximate location derived from the IP address
• Device, operating-system, and app information
• Ad requests, impressions, clicks, and interaction information
• Diagnostics and fraud-prevention information

This information may be used to deliver, measure, limit, and improve advertising, prevent fraud, and maintain the advertising service. MZ Tech Pro does not receive your private crochet notes or project records through the App’s local project storage.

Advertising may require an internet connection. The project counter and locally stored project features are designed to remain usable when an ad cannot load.

3. Consent and Privacy Choices

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the App uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage consent where required.

Depending on your location and choices, you may be able to:

• Consent to personalised advertising
• Refuse consent
• Manage advertising and privacy preferences
• Change privacy choices later through the App’s privacy settings, when available

If you do not consent to personalised advertising, ads may still be shown using permitted non-personalised methods or may not be shown.

4. Information We Do Not Collect Directly

MZ Tech Pro does not require you to create an account and does not directly collect or maintain a developer-side profile of your crochet projects, notes, yarn information, hook information, or project photos.

The App does not include automatic contacts access, automatic cloud synchronisation, bank access, location tracking, or background GPS tracking.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Your local project data remains on your device until you delete a project, clear the App’s storage, uninstall the App, or replace the notebook by restoring another backup.

You can delete individual projects from the project-details screen. Deleting a project removes its locally stored counters, notes, settings, and photo copy from the App.

Exported backups and shared progress cards are separate files. To remove those copies, you must delete them from the storage location or application where you saved or shared them.

MZ Tech Pro does not maintain a developer-side copy of your local project notebook that can be deleted through a server account.

6. Children’s Privacy

The App is a general-purpose crafting utility and is not directed specifically to children. The App does not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information through a third-party advertising or sharing service, please contact us so we can review the concern.

7. Third-Party Services

The App may use third-party services required for advertising, consent management, Android system sharing, and Android system file selection. These services may process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

• Google Privacy Policy

• Google UMP privacy documentation

8. Security

We use the App’s private Android storage and transaction-safe local database to reduce the risk of incomplete counter saves. However, no device, backup file, sharing service, or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Keep your Android device, exported backups, and shared files protected. Do not include sensitive personal information in project notes or shared cards.

9. International Users

The App may be used internationally. Advertising and consent handling may differ according to your country, applicable law, and the privacy choices available in your region.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App’s features, advertising services, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
